So a few weeks ago, Donna comes in and says, “we need a blog!” I used to really be into the Internet from way back when Prodigy was a big deal. My first computer was an Apple II then a Gateway 8088 with a 40 MEG Hard drive! How could I ever use all of that space?
Anyway, after having twin girls 4 years ago (born on the eve of the beginning of the Iraq mess), I’ve gotten behind on the Internet lingo. So, after Donna explained what a blog is and what it does, I got excited… and scared!
Those of you who have been around me in the studio know I have an odd sense of humor, one that often doesn’t translate well in writing. I can come across as.. well, a jerk! I figured I’d never get on this thing. Then tonight Donna says, “you need to write something in the ‘about us’ section.”
So here I am in 2007 feeling quite behind and my children aren’t old enough to explain it to me yet. I have tiny memory cards in my cameras with 40 times the capacity of my first computer hard drives, the Iraq war continues and new technology is whooping my butt!
That said, I’ll tip toe through this “about us” stuff.
“About us.” Me first. I reserve the right to change the facts of this story at any time to suit my needs. I was born at a very early age in Alabama where my interest in photography began. After managing a few one hour photo labs in the early 80’s, I left to pursue my own career in photography doing weddings, portraits and working in a custom lab printing murals and such for … well, REAL photographers.
Then, after eating rice and beans (but looking quite fit), I got a real job and that brought me to Virginia about 17 years ago. That’s when I met Donna. It was love at first sight.. well for her anyway, and we got married on 9/1/2001. We joked about getting married on 911. Then ten days later, the OTHER 9/11 occurred and kinda trumped us.
Donna and I both love children and knew that’s what we both wanted more than anything in this world. When the rabbit died, we went for a test and were shocked to see THREE images on the ultrasound! One turned out to be gas, but the other two were our beautiful little girls… well lizards at the time, but eventually our beautiful little girls!
They were born on St. Patrick’s day and.. at this point I think I may never shut up and I’m putting a lot of information on the Internet. I’m feeling uncomfortable. Never-the-less, our girls are now four and have taught us so much about what is really important in life like a warm hug when you are feeling down. The beautiful way they look when they say “daddy.” The importance of antibiotics and air fresheners.
Donna and I decided to head back into the photography business as a means of having some control over our lives and being able to spend more with our children. Yeah, right…We should have first asked other business owners how that was working for them!
So, I hope we can all have some good natured, light hearted fun with this “blog” thing. Know ahead of time that my comments are usually with my eyes rolling, tounge planted firmly in cheek and not intended to be hurtful or offensive…well, most of the time anyway!
Later,
Chris
